QVSB Modified Coach Pitch Baseball (6U)

Overview:

In-house QVSB league for 5-6 year-old boys

Typically one weekend game and one weekday practice per week

3-4 inning game (targeted) with 60 minute limit and 5-run limit per inning

All games and practices will be held at Sewickley area fields

Typically 3-4 teams with 9-10 players per team, requiring 3-4 volunteer coaches per team

Eligibility:

Birthdates from 01/01/2009 through 12/31/2010

Program targets players with at least one year of Tee ball experience.  First-year players of appropriate age will be considered based upon demonstrated baseball skills and the patience and attention span for a more structured baseball game. Coaches and Commissioner will assess skills for these players.

Schedule:

Practices begin mid-March (weather dependent)

Games from mid-April through mid-June

One scheduled weekday practice per week, with additional practice time possible based upon field and coach scheduling

Playing Time and Positions:

Continuous batting order of all players in attendance 3 outs per inning, 5 runs max per team per inning 3-5 pitches per batter, then a tee is used to put ball in play

Controlled base running with limited advancement infield hits and overthrows

All players rotate each inning and get a chance to play all positions during the course of the season (as long as safety is not a concern, e.g. catching ball at 1st base)

Everyone plays in the field each inning – required time in infield and outfield each game

Development Objectives:

100% instructional league

Improve baseball basics including fielding, throwing, batting and base running

Introduce hitting a thrown baseball and structured baseball rules to encourage more strategy, base running skills, and field awareness

Development Goal – Have FUN and develop fundamental baseball skills to set foundation for regular coach pitch within a year.

Equipment and Uniforms:

Use a soft "safety" baseball like used in T-ball

Player provides baseball glove, pants (baseball or sweatpants), socks and cleats

Players are given a team hat and jersey

League provides all other needed equipment for each team

Awards and Recognition:

No score is kept (other than to monitor 5-run limit), league standings, or champion

All players will receive a participation trophy at the end of the season. No league all-stars or tournament teams

Concessions

Parents of all QVSB participants may be asked to volunteer in the concession stand for at least one game during the season.

QVSB Coach Pitch Baseball (8U)

Overview:

In-house QVSB league for 7-8 year-old boys

Typically one game and one practice per week

6-inning games with 5-run limit per inning (games typically last 90 minutes)

All games and practices will be held at Sewickley area fields

8-10 teams with 9-12 players per team, requiring 3-4 volunteer coaches per team

Eligibility:

Birthdates from 09/01/2006 through 12/31/2008

Players born in 2009 can request participation which may be allowed subject to having played at least one year of Modified Coach Pitch and approval of Coaches and Commissioner based upon skills assessment. However, due to the changes in Little League ages for 2015, QVSB highly suggests that these players participate in the 6U Modified Coach Pitch program.

Improve baseball basics including fielding, throwing, batting and base running

Catcher introduced and rover eliminated to encourage more strategy and field awareness

Encourage recognition and selection of pitches to hit; batters can strike out, but no walks

Development Goal – Have FUN and develop fundamental baseball skills to set foundation for kid-pitch within 1-2 years.

Equipment and Uniforms:

Use regular baseball (not the soft "safety" ball used in T-ball and Modified Coach Pitch)

Player provides baseball glove, pants, socks and cleats

Players are given a team hat and jersey League provides all other needed equipment for each team

Awards and Recognition:

No league standings or champion although there will be a season-ending tournament for all teams

All players will receive a participation trophy at the end of the season

Coaches nominate and vote on top players from each team for participation on 8-year-old tournament team. These teams compete in local tournaments throughout late-June and July. Depending on coach and player interest, there may also be a 7-year-old tournament team selected. To be eligible for a tournament team a player must have participated in their age-appropriate league and played in at least 60% of their team's games during the season.

Concessions

Parents of all QVSB participants will be asked to volunteer in the concession stand for at least one game during the season.
