QVSB Majors (Little League) (12U)

Overview:

Local travel league for 11-12 year-old boys with emphasis on both instruction and competition

Practices and games held both during the week and the weekend

Home games played in Sewickley and away games at Avonworth and North Allegheny 6-inning games with 9 defensive players; required playing time for all players

Typically 4-5 QVSB teams (10-12 total teams in league) with 11-12 players per team 3-4 volunteer coaches and scorekeeper per team

Teams are formed via a pre-season skills assessment and QVSB league draft by head coaches

Little League Rules enforced including pitch counts and corresponding days of rest for pitchers

All scores are recorded and league standings/records are kept; all teams participate in playoffs

Eligibility:

Birthdates from 05/01/2002 through 04/30/2004

Players born from 05/01/2004 to 04/30/2005 may request participation which may be allowed subject to approval of Coaches and Commissioner based upon skills assessment. Note impact on tournament team eligibility below for those "playing up".

Schedule:

Skills assessment and teams formed in early March

Practices begin mid-March, games begin mid-April and playoffs end in late June

Practice slots are 1-2 hours and games usually last about 2 hours

Playing Time and Positions:

Continuous batting order of all players in attendance

Nine (9) defensive players in the field

All players must play a minimum 2 innings on defense

Playing time, especially skilled positions (shortstop, pitcher, catcher, etc.) based on individual player skill, merit, and taking player safety into consideration.

Development Objectives:

Focus on refining player's existing skills and the development of advanced skills for all positions while maintaining safety and encouraging sportsmanship

Advanced fundamentals of fielding, throwing, batting and base running

Development Goal – Have FUN and continue to develop improved baseball skills.

Equipment and Uniforms:

Player provides baseball glove, baseball pants, and cleats

League provides a team hat and jersey

League provides all other needed equipment

Awards and Recognition:

League playoffs for all teams with trophies to Champion and Runner-up players

Coaches nominate top players from each team for participation on 11-year-old or 12-year-old tournament teams.  These teams compete in Little League World Series and local tournaments throughout late-June and July. To be eligible for a tournament team a player must have participated in their age-appropriate league and played in at least 60% of their team's games during the season.

Concessions

Parents of all QVSB participants will be asked to volunteer in the concession stand for at least one game during the season.
