12U Fastpitch Softball


This age group plays as part of the 14U division in the Moon Area Softball League, and may combine with players from QV's 14U non-competitive fastpitch team if needed.

Typically one QV team size ranging between 12 to 14 girls per team.

Requires one head coach, one or two assistant coaches and a scorekeeper.


Birthdates from 1/1/2002 through 12/31/2003.

Players born after 12/31/2003 may request participation which may be allowed subject to approval of Coaches and Commissioner based upon skills assessment.


Skills assessment and team formations in early March, with practices beginning mid-March

12-game seasons begin in late April and end in late June with a tournament

Typically 1 or 2 games each week, beginning at 6 or 6:30 pm at fields in Sewickley and Moon, with additional practices as time is available

Playing Time and Positions:

Continuous batting order of all players in attendance

9 players in the field, players will rotate innings on bench if more than 10 are available

Playing time, especially skilled positions (pitcher, catcher, shortstop, etc.) will consider individual player skill, merit, and player safety.


More competitive, higher-level fastpitch game

Players continue to build and refine the fundamentals of fielding, game situations, hitting, bunting, base running, and good sportsmanship.

Players enhance skills in multiple infield and outfield positions and develop these skills to apply in a variety of game situations, including use of cut-off, proper base to throw to, pickoffs, etc.

Proper sliding technique and base stealing fundamentals reinforced.
Pitchers and catchers should spend additional time developing their specialized skills.

Equipment and Uniform:

Players must provide fielding gloves, softball socks, athletic shorts or softball pants, mouth guards if playing infield positions.

Sliding shorts, knee pad and rubber/molded cleats are strongly recommended.

Players are given a team jersey and socks.

QVSB provides all other necessary equipment for games and practices including a variety of bats, helmets, catcher's gear, and face masks for pitchers.

Awards and Recognition:

The Moon Area Softball League sponsors an All-Star game for each division at the end of the season.
